Transportation to St. Elizabeth High School
The automobile is the preferred method of transportation to and from school for the great majority of St. Elizabeth High School students. Most students either drive themselves, are driven by parents, or carpool. We are most fortunate to have many parents/students who help us by providing carpools for students. Most carpool arrangements are made by parents and/or students. St. Elizabeth High School has no school bus system because we have limited demand for student busing. The lack of demand is explained by the large numbers of students who are transported by automobile, plus the cost of buses, which is over $1,500.00 per year per student. The state transportation reimbursement amount is approximately $140.00 per year, an amount to which you will be entitled, assuming the legislature grants it, if your student lives more than two miles from school. Below are some of the options utilized by SEHS families. Please note that there is no connection between St. Elizabeth High School and any of these options.
Mealey Transportation
A number of our students make use of Mealey Transportation, a local company that provides door to door service for students. Should you desire to make use of this service, contact them as soon as possible as their vans fill up quickly. Their phone number is (302)778-1285.
DART Bus
The system is used by a few of our students and is frequently overlooked by some who could easily make use of it. We have DART schedules on hand and will gladly make them available upon request. Students using DART qualify for discount fare bus tickets, which may be obtained at the school Business Office. DART has bus stops both in front of school and at the corner of Broom and Cedar Streets.
Carpool
Most carpool arrangements are made by students and/or parents among themselves. Families needing help to arrange car pools can contact the business office at 302-656-3369 for assistance.
Delaware Ride Share
This program has been helpful to several St. E. families. You can contact DE Ride Share at 1-888-RIDEMATCH (743-3628) for more information.
Pennsylvania School Bus
Students who live in Pennsylvania have used Pennsylvania school bus transportation to St. Elizabeth. Currently, Kennett Consolidated, Penn-Delco, Garnet Valley, and Chichester School Districts all provide transportation to St. Elizabeth. Our advice to families is to contact your local public school district for more information, even if it is a school district not listed above.
St. Elizabeth High School will be happy to work with you in an effort to make transportation arrangements or to search the “Zip Code” list in an attempt to find parents/students in your neighborhood who are interested in carpooling. Please feel free to contact the school office at 302.656.3369 with any concerns or questions.
