STUDENT HANDBOOK 2008 - 2009

Assemblies, Club Meetings, Dances, Field Trips, Fund Raising, Parties

Assemblies

The various bell schedules permit an additional period for both assemblies and activities. These are not intended as early dismissal time schedules.

Several Monday homeroom period assemblies are scheduled in the school year. On these days students report to homeroom at 7:45 a.m. until called to assembly. Students should report to formal assemblies in silence. Assembly conduct must be of the highest standard. At no time will whistling or loud noises be permitted; normal enthusiastic applause will indicate appreciation.

 Club Meetings
Clubs and organizations come under the direction of the Associate Principal. Club moderators and officers schedule meetings and activities in conjunction with the monthly calendar. Any club planning a dance or trip must see the Associate Principal for permission slips.

Dances/ Receptions
Each spring, junior and senior parents sponsor a formal Prom dance followed by an After-Prom party. Parents organize the evening and mail out pertinent information to all participants a few weeks prior to the event. In addition, junior parents sponsor a reception in conjunction with Ring Mass.  Other dances or receptions run by the school throughout the year (e.g. Winter Ball, Blue*Gold, Spring Fling) are primarily for SEHS students.  Students who wish to bring an outside guest to a school dance must complete a Dance/Guest Form and obtain the signature of an administrator for approval of the guest. The St. Elizabeth Youth Group is sponsored by the parish and does not operate under the auspices of the high school.

Field Trips

Trips connected with courses may occur during the school day. Those trips that are part of a club activity must be scheduled after school hours. Field trips are privileges afforded to students. Participation can be denied if students fail to meet academic, attendance and disciplinary requirements. School or class trips require that students dress in school uniform unless otherwise directed. All trips must be approved by the Associate Principal; the Associate Principal must also be consulted regarding transportation, permission slips, chaperones, and student eligibility.

Fund-raising Activities
The school sponsors two fund-raising drives each year. Every family is expected to participate in one of two ways: participate in the fall and winter fund drives, or add the designated amount to tuition contracts. The Principal’s explicit permission is required for any other drive. In addition, no student is permitted to collect money for any purpose unless he has the permission of a club moderator who has secured approval from the administration.

Parties

Students who wish to have parties for students or faculty members must have the party after school or during lunch. Evening parties and or dances sponsored by parents or students are not the school’s responsibility. When making arrangements for these private affairs, students and parents may not sign the schools name to any contract.
