COURSE EXPECTATIONS
CONTENT
This is a survey course in the history of man from his beginnings until the
present. This course presents seven major themes from Early Civilization
thru Early Modern Times to the Enlightenment and Revolution Period to
Industrialization and to the Modern Era that are developed in our textbook,
World History. In our work this year we will uncover information
that will make the past easier to understand, that will help us to
comprehend today’s complex world even better, and that will prepare us for
the future.
GRADING POLICY
-
The grading policy
will be based on a “Total Points System.” Each assignment, quiz,
etc. will be assigned a specific point value (e.g. Test = 100 points).
At the end of the quarter, all grades/points received will be added and
divided into the maximum number of points possible. The “raw” quarter
grade will be gotten from this calculation.
-
Three to six
tests a quarter will be given.
-
Oral and Written
Quizzes
(announced and unannounced) will be given throughout the quarter.
Assigned reading and note sheets will be the likely quiz material.
There will be at least four quizzes per quarter.
-
There may be at
least one group assignment or oral presentation per quarter on an
assigned topic.
-
There will be at
least one formal writing assignment/essay per quarter on an
assigned topic.
-
Homework
is a requirement! All homework must be handed in on time or on the day
a student returns from an excused absence. Students will receive a 50%
penalty for work that is one day late. No credit will be given after
that one day period.
-
Class
Participation
is an important part of every class! While no points will be deducted
for failure to participate, active participation could enhance one’s
grade. Therefore, come to class prepared to discuss, interact,
question, and participate. The better you prepare for each class, the
better class experience you will have.
-
Class Extra Credit
will be given throughout the year. Students should take advantage of
it. Individual Extra Credit is given at the discretion of the
teacher based on the student’s effort and attitude for the quarter.
Extra credit will NOT be given when other assignments are incomplete.
YOU WILL GET OUT OF
THIS COURSE WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT!
ALWAYS GIVE 100%!

CLASSROOM REQUIREMENTS
1. It is expected that each student will abide by the "Student Code of
Conduct" established by St. Elizabeth
High School
(e.g. absence, behavior, lateness, etc.).
2. Students are expected to conduct themselves as young Christian women and
men at all times.
3. It is expected that students will treat each other, the teacher, and all
classroom material with respect at all times. Any language, behavior, or
actions contrary to this are not acceptable.
4. It is expected that all work and assignments will be that of the
student. Copying, cheating, or plagiarism of any sort will result in the
grade of zero for the assignment. The teacher may consider failing the
student for the marking period if this occurs. Violations of the Academic
Honesty Code will also be reported to the Academic Honesty Committee for the
necessary consequences. Further, any such incident will create major
questions in my mind about your character, integrity, and reputation. This
is something I never want to happen.
5. When a student is absent he/she is responsible for all missed work.
Students are responsible for getting in touch with a classmate or
contacting, emailing, or seeing the teacher for missed assignments and
notes. Absence is never an excuse for not getting or completing missed
work.
6. Make-up tests (given for excused absences only) should be made up on the
first day the student returns from his/her absence unless other arrangements
are made with the teacher (e.g. extended absence). Failure to do this will
result in a grade of zero. It is the student’s responsibility to see the
teacher the day he/she returns from being absent to schedule the make-up
test.
7. It is the student’s responsibility to take notes, maintain a clean and
neat notebook, complete assigned daily reading, be prepared for a quiz each
day, review the day’s work every night, and keep all returned tests,
quizzes, papers, handouts, etc. in a folder.
8. All students must have the necessary textbook, a notebook, student
agenda book, a highlighter, a folder, loose-leaf, a red pen, and several
pens. They must be brought to class EVERY DAY unless told
otherwise.
9. Have fun!
