Your grade will be based on the following scores. There will be:

a)     Quizzes  (  Approximately 15 to 20 minutes )

b)     Double quizzes   ( 40 minutes or more )…Double quizzes will be entered on mygradebook.com as two quizzes. For example:

If we have Quiz 1, Quiz 2, Quiz 3, and then a double quiz, the double quiz will be entered as Quiz 4 and Quiz 5

Note: Sometimes, quizzes will be on illustrative examples and/or previous homework that we went over in class. These will be graded on a right or wrong basis…no partial credit. On these kind of quizzes, if you have the problems in your class notes, or you have them originally correct or you have corrected them in your notebook……..you may simply copy them from you notebook.  You will be given only the amount of times necessary to copy them. These quizzes are meant to reflect whether or not you are listening and taking notes in class.

c)     Homework and Class Participation. In addition to your quiz grades, you will receive a homework/class participation grade to be determined as follows: You start each marking period with 100 points---- for each homework that you miss or which is not adequately prepared (in my opinion), you lose 5 points; also, for any class in which you sleep, work on another subject, or otherwise do not participate adequately, you lose 5 points. Your H.W./ C.P. grade is what you have left out of the original 100 points at the end of the marking period.

d)     At the end of each marking period, an optional quiz will be given. The purpose of this quiz is to replace your lowest quiz grade. In order to eligible to take to take this quiz, your H.W./C.P. grade must be at least 90.

Your grade is found by averaging your quizzes and your H.W./C.P. grade.

·          Review problems will be assigned on a regular basis. You will usually be given about 2 weeks to complete these problems. They will be in addition to the regular homework problems. You may turn them in to be corrected early and then get them back, correct your errors, then turn them in again. I will grade them on a right or wrong basis. You may do this as many times as you can before the deadline. If you can’t do some of the problems,  you may come in at lunch or after school to get help. I’ll be glad to help you. On the deadline day,  all of the problems must be correct with correct work shown neatly for each problem. If any of the problems are incorrect or they are not turned in, you will lose 10 points from your H.W./C.P. grade. Last year, almost everyone who turned the problems in only once……..on the deadline day missed some of the problems. Please don’t wait…turn them in early so that you will have a chance to fix your mistakes.

Notes

·         All legally missed homework must be made up promptly.

·         All legally missed quizzes must be made up promptly.

·         All homework and/or quizzes missed because of an unexcused absence may not be made up. You lose 5 points for illegally missed homework. Illegally missed quizzes result in a “ 0 ”.

·         Quizzes must be taken with a PENCIL.    NO INK.  Do not scribble through mistakes----ERASE THEM. Tests taken in ink will lose 10 points from that grade.

·         I want it to be as quiet for the last person who finishes a quiz as it is for the first person who finishes Therefore, there is to be no talking at all during quizzes until every paper is turned in. If you talk before I have every paper, you will lose 10 points from that grade. This is fair because you know ahead of time about this rule.

·         You must bring the following items to class on a daily basisyour book, your notebook, a pencil, and your calculator.

·         You must work all warm-up problems at the beginning of class.

·         You must take notes ( at least copy down the illustrative problems from the board.

·         You must correct your homework problems when we go over them in class.

·         You may not sit in class with your head on your desk.

·         These last few items all reflect “ adequate “ class participation.

·         There will be a writing assignment each semester which will count as a part of your grade.
