St. Elizabeth High School

Peer Tutoring Program

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Your child has been recommended by a Teacher or Guidance Counselor to enroll in the school’s Peer Tutoring program.  As a college preparatory school committed to the academic success of our students, St. Elizabeth High School provides a resource for those needing help in their fields of study.  An active program of Peer Tutoring is in place to supplement learning beyond the classroom.  Whereas outside professional tutoring is costly, our Peer Tutoring is provided at no charge to parents.

Peer Tutoring sessions are held twice a week in the school during lunch period.  It is strongly recommended your child BRING their lunch on those days so they are not late to tutoring.  If they are more than ten minutes late, it will be an unexcused absence resulting in a detention.

If enrolled in the Peer Tutoring program, your child will be partnered with one of our Tutors: students who have demonstrated academic excellence through National Honor Society, Honor Roll, AP Courses, and Teacher Recommendations.  Tutors reinforce success skills including study habits, time management, problem solving techniques, and teacher-student interactions.  They also help students with homework assignments and test preparation.

Peer Tutoring does not take the place of students working on their own to learn each of their subjects.  Nor is it a way to have someone else do their homework.  Rather it is a mechanism by which students can benefit from the experience of those who have gone before them.

Peer Tutoring is a voluntary program, however once a student is enrolled, they are committed to attending their scheduled sessions.  Students missing a session will receive one detention, unless they have an excused absence.

Please fill out the back of this letter and return it to me, indicating whether or not you wish to have your child enrolled in the Peer Tutoring program.  Your child will be interviewed prior to acceptance into the program.

With best regards,
