In the twenty first century, with its instantaneous transference of information, a well informed individual requires a basic awareness of history, geography and the behavioral sciences.  Given the vast cultural diversity of the United States, such awareness is essential if students are to be sensitive to the needs of others, both within the school community and in the world beyond.

The Social Studies Department must develop in students an awareness of the interconnection of events and the impact of events upon the state of humanity, along with the fact that events do no occur in isolation – each event arises from a foundation of interdependent causes.
